Battery operated wireless devices may be a thing of the past as the ZigBee Alliance is working on the standards for wireless technology products that will operate by harvesting energy available in its surroundings.
Energy harvesting devices will eliminate the need for using conventional batteries by harvesting or converting energy on its environment and convert it into usable electricity. More likely energies from vibrations or light but the company might use the widely available ambient radio waves.
The Zigbee Green Power standard is more like to be available to this alliance by the end of this year. More details on the link below.
