Smart traffic plan will effectively battle traffic congestion--but where's the money?

11/09/08 23:23
Traffic lights are helpful, alright, as it monitors the flow of vehicles from place to place. What I (we?) only find annoying about these lights are they are stubborn in the sense that they do not adjust to immediate changes in the environment.

There may be an answer to that in the form of this smart sensor system that adjusts traffic light systems depending on external conditions. The problem? There isn't enough money on-board to support the project.

Smart sensors at Mount St. Helens

11/09/08 22:48
New smart robotic sensors are now being used by scientists to monitor activity at Mount St. Helens. The project is comprised mainly by wireless sensors that relay data to one another to conserve energy.

The people behind these are professors from Washington State University Vancouver, experts from the US Geological Service, and carloads of graduate students who helped in the project.
