High-tech wireless sensor networks are placed in the Lake Wivenhoe to monitor and test its quality if its still potable for the 1.5 million Australians relying on it as a main source or water. Wireless, intelligent and integrated sensor, Fleck devices that is a trademarks of Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organizion (CSIRO) are being used in the monitoring of the lakes condition with the help of SEQWater, a water authority in Queensland.
About 120 FLECK are strategically placed around the lake, one-third on the surface of lake's water and the rest is on land around the body of water; plus a robing solar-powered catamaran for a detailed measurement that the sensors required for more analysis
